Are there any places to hike in Cherokee suitable for kids? Empty Hiking with kids

Post by John Sat Jun 06, 2009 12:21 am

Look for the Mingus Creek Trail. this old trail is actually a road bed the rangers use for access to a shooting range. Starts through the gate at Mingus Creek Mill.
Also look at Kephart Prong up the road a ways from Smokemont Campground. This trail leads quickly to an old CCC camp which can be really interesting for kids.
I have found that kids can out-hike me if given the proper incentive. Something cool to look at along the way and at the end. My son's complaints about exhaustion generally come from boredom.
