Hello everyone
I just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I'm Cindy, and have been a user on YNET for several years, and a YSNP addict as well. I have recently relocated to Franklin, NC from Southern Idaho, and am looking for some great places to go and do some wildlife photography. Especially Black Bear photography. Any help and direction to go from where I'm at would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. I look forward to conversing with all of you!

Re: Hello everyone
On the NC side its more just being lucky. Years ago Cataloochee was a good place to see black bears but after they reintroduced the elk the park service started moving bears that were killing elk calves. The bears in this area tend to avoid humans but I did see a bear warning sign up on a trail in June in Cataloochee.
The best place I go to photograph black bears is Cades Cove. August and October are great months for seeing black bears in Cades Cove but other months can be good as well. It is rare that I go to Cades Cove and NOT see a bear.
Also Roaring Fork in Gatlinburg is a good place to see a bear but difficult to photograph due really thick forests.

Thanks Don...I will take all of that into consideration. I've been checkin out how far it is from here to Cades Cove, as I'd really love to go there and check it out! Appreciate the feedback!

Hi Cindy,
Welcome to Don's new forums and welcome to the area as well.
His advice on the bears is spot on. From Franklin it will take you about one (1) hour to get to the Cove.
I live in Maryville, on the other side of the park, only about 15 minutes from the Cove. I am a regular in the park and Cades Cove ... If you ever want a tour drop me a note and let me know.
